Student Programs

The ACC supports students in a variety of ways. Students are offered lower registration rates and lower hotel room rates (for a limited room block). The ACC also coordinates a conference-wide Student Best Paper Award and provides Student Travel Grants.

Student Best Paper Award

The 2021 ACC is pleased to continue the tradition of the Student Best Paper Award. All primary, first-listed authors of a regular contributed paper who are students at the time of submission are eligible. To be considered for the award, the following must be submitted via PaperPlaza by the student's advisor:

  • A blind version of the paper, with all identifying information for the authors removed (this includes the author list, the affiliations and contact information, and any language in the body of the paper that reveals the authors' identities).
Please note that this blind version is separate from, and in addition to, the normal submission of the paper for peer review. In other words, nominators should submit two versions of their paper: one in the normal format (without author information removed) as usual to ACC or L-CSS, and a separate blind version of their paper for consideration for the best student paper award.
  • A nomination letter specifying the student’s name, PaperPlaza PIN, and name of paper. The letter must certify that the nominee was a student at the time of submission, and was the primary contributor of the results presented in the paper. The letter should also contain a short (1 paragraph) description of the merits of the paper; however, it is expected that the paper itself will clearly convey those merits to the reader.

Each advisor may only nominate one paper.

Note to authors who submitted to L-CSS: You will need an ACC paper number to nominate your paper for the Student Best Paper Award. The ACC number will be assigned to your paper once it is transferred to ACC after peer review at L-CSS, at which point you will be able to nominate your paper.

The link for submission can be found on PaperPlaza. The submission deadline is November 15, 2020. The nominated papers will be reviewed by a special committee convened for the best study paper award competition.

Finalists will present their nominated papers in a special session for the Best Student Paper Awards with the winner presented at the AACC Awards Ceremony at the conference.

Student Travel Grants

The 2021 American Control Conference Organizing Committee will continue the tradition of providing partial student support for students traveling to the 2021 ACC in New Orleans, LA, USA.

The application for student travel support, as well as details regarding eligibility conditions for support and a description of the support will be made available here at a later date.

A roommate finding procedure will be made available to students to allow them to share a hotel room and reduce their lodging costs.
